A few snaps from the Garden of my mother, Joyce Tlustos, on August 24, 2018 in SW Sioux Falls, SD. As the sign indicates, Mom was, is, and will always be an Avant Gardener. What makes a person an Avant Gardener? I don’t know. I suspect a particular, whimsical attitude has something to do with it. I suspect age does not.
While in Alexandria last week I ran into this gent outside his senior living apartment. He spends a lot of time on his very nice bicycle…enough time that he needed saddle bags. He built these of wood because “the fancy nylon bad were just too expensive.” While slightly heavy, if I had a choice between nylon and these wooden hand-crafted beauties I’d go with the wood!
